What's 4YC Mag anyway?

4YC Mag is the publication chapter of 4YC, a magazine AND production club serving Hunter students, but also literally anyone who is cool. We noticed the lack of places that film students at Hunter could put their work and meet other film enthusiasts outside of class. So we made this club!

NOTE: We don’t care what your major is! As long as you <3 film, you’re good!

This semester we will be working towards a zine (focusing on the chick flicks of the 2000s) and our main magazine publication (focusing on the overall central theme of how women and femininity are portrayed in film).To find out how to contribute our very first edition and to learn more about the theme, keep reading!

The Chick Flick: An Exploration of Femininity in Film

This edition’s theme will be all about femininity in film. While the theme was inspired by the chick flicks of the early 2000s (that also heavily inspired our website lol), we're looking for all kinds of submissions that discuss women and femininity in film! Anything from pieces on the golden chick flick era of the 2000s to unflinching portrayals of women in film and TV that you love (or hate!, hate is cool too!) If you can find a connection between your idea and the theme, submit it!

Femininity in Film is a BIG topic, so we will be accepting a broad range of work. Listed below are just some examples of what we accept as long as your ideas are thematically related:

• Writing - articles, opinion pieces, film reviews, literally anything

• Interviews - have a filmic artist in your life you admire? Write an article on them!

• Photography - capturing mise-en-scene, photographs that go with theme, etc.

• Graphic Design - any digital art relating to the theme, layout proposals, etc.

• Scripts - scripts must be no more than 4 pages and relate to the theme

ANYTHING!!! Isn’t it beautiful how possibilities are just endless like that?

Okay, but how do I submit?!

That's a really good question! If you have an idea (which we are so excited to hear!) you can submit your proposal in this google form. You do not need to have completed your writing, photos, project or whatever you plan to put in the magazine. You only need to let us know your idea, how it relates to our theme and how you plan to execute it. Read more about our magazine protocol here!
